Burnie
Burnie
Metro services in Burnie use the Wayfarer ticketing system. Wayfarer electronic ticket machines are installed in Metro's Burnie bus fleet. This consists of a driver's console from which single trip tickets are sold and a ticket validator which is used by passengers, who have purchased multi-ride tickets either from the driver or from a Metro ticket sales agent.
How does it work?
You can buy a single trip ticket on the bus and the driver will issue you with a paper ticket printed with details of the travel purchased. If you choose to take advantage of Metro's range of discounted fares such as Day Tripper off-peak tickets, sold by all drivers or the Ten Trip or Ten Day tickets purchased from a ticket agent, you are issued with a credit card size ticket which you must validate each time you board a bus.
Validating your ticket
All multi-ride tickets, including Ten Trip and Ten Day tickets, must be validated as you board the bus. Place your ticket into the validator with the Metro logo facing up - it does not matter which end. The validator will return your ticket with the travel details printed on it and the display on the validator will also show you the ticket details, including how many trips you have left on a Metro 10 or how many days are left on a 10 day ticket.
If you have a problem just check with the driver.
Remember - if you are travelling on a concession ticket you are required to carry your concession permit and show it to the driver on request.
Looking after your Ticket
Details of the ticket you purchased and the number of trips taken are encoded on the magnetic strip on the back of the ticket. To keep your ticket safe from damage ask for a ticket wallet when you buy your ticket from a Metro ticket agent.
Free Transfers
If you are using a Ten Trip ticket and you need to transfer between buses to complete your journey, the validator will accept your ticket without deducting another trip as long as you board the second bus within 60 minutes of validating your ticket on the first bus. The validator will accept any number of trips on Day Tripper tickets in off-peak times.
