Apply Online For A Urban Fringe Student Permit

Permits are available to those Students living in "Urban Fringe" areas only.

Students currently residing in "Urban Fringe" areas and use Metro bus services, (Including Hobart Coaches) can apply online to receive a new Student Urban Fringe Permit.

The Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources have defined Urban Fringe areas, which can be viewed at http://www.dier.tas.gov.au/student_bus_fares/urban_area_maps

Information and applications for Student Bus Passes for Free Travel and Student Bus Passes for Transfers from urban fringe services to urban services are available at http://www.transport.tas.gov.au/passenger_forms

The new Urban Fringe Student Permit, when presented to a Metro bus driver will entitle the holder to purchase a 30 cent student fare.

Urban Fringe Student Permit rules take effect from 1 July 2008

 
Kingston Central Bus Stops in Hutchins Street Revert Back to Channel Highway

From Monday the 14th April 2008, the temporary bus stops currently located in Hutchins Street will no longer be serviced.
All Metro bus services will revert back to using the previous departure points on the Channel Highway

  • Services to Hobart will depart from Kingston Central North, outside Denison House (Channel Highway)
  • Services to Blackmans Bay and the Channel will depart from Kingston Central South, outside the Commonwealth Bank Building (Channel Highway)

NEW METRO TICKETS & FARES, effective 27th January, 2008.

New bus fare structures and prices will operate in Hobart, Launceston and Burnie from Sunday the 27th of January.

Public Holiday timetables now to operate in Hobart on Christmas Day and Good Friday

Full Sunday timetables will now operate in Hobart and Launceston on both Christmas Day and Good Friday. These changes reflect the increase in demand for bus travel during these public holidays.
