Back to school reminder: check your bus timetable before Monday

MEDIA RELEASE

1 May 2026

With school returning on Monday, Metro Tasmania is reminding parents, carers and students to check their bus timetables ahead of changes starting from Sunday, 3 May 2026.

The changes are the first step in the Greater Hobart Network Review and are focused on making bus timetables more reliable and better aligned with real traffic conditions, so customers can plan their day with greater confidence.

Metro Tasmania Chief Executive Officer Jess Paton said the key message for families and all customers is to check before travelling.

“With school going back on Monday, we are encouraging parents, carers and students to check their updated timetable before Term 2 begins,” Ms Paton said.

Ms Paton said public transport remains one of the most affordable and practical ways to travel, particularly while the Tasmanian Government’s free fare initiative is in place.

“With fares currently free, this is a great opportunity for more people to give public transport a go. The bus is a reliable and easy option,” Ms Paton said.

“Whether you are heading to school, work, appointments, or shopping in the city, we encourage people to hop on board, let us take care of the journey, and enjoy the ride.”

As part of the timetable update, Brighton will also receive new Sunday services from 3 May 2026, matching the current Saturday timetable.

Customers can check their updated timetable using the Metro Tasmania website, Trip Planner or Metro app.
