Metro Tasmania Pty Ltd is a state owned company established in February 1998. The company trades as Metro and operates bus services in Hobart, Launceston and Burnie. Metro is the largest passenger transport company in Tasmania.

Hobart and Launceston
Buses are generally available for charter on
- Monday to Friday between 9.30am and 2.30pm, and 6.30pm and 9.00pm
- Saturdays between 7.00am and 9.00pm
- Sundays and public holidays between 8.30am and 6.00pm
Burnie
Buses are generally available for charter on weekdays between
- 9.00am and 2.30pm
- 4.00pm and midnight by negotiation

About Metro buses
- Metro buses are two-star urban transport vehicles with seating capacities ranging from 30 to 70 adults.
- Buses are largely restricted to short-haul journeys on sealed roads.
- There is room for each passenger to bring only a small amount of personal luggage onto a Metro bus.
- Most buses are fitted with ‘kneeling’ devices for easy entry at footpath level. An increasing number of buses are wheelchair accessible and have ramps for easy access.
