Tasmanians can now hop on Metro buses for free, with no fare or GreenCard required on services across the State until 30 June 2027.

This Tasmanian Government cost‑of‑living initiative is designed to help ease pressure on household budgets, particularly as fuel prices continue to rise. As more Tasmanians look for easier and more affordable ways to get around, Metro is here to help keep people moving, to work, to the shops, to appointments, and everywhere in between.

Customers can choose whether to register their GreenCard online. By doing so, you unlock additional benefits that you can access in the My GreenCard online portal or the Metro App such as: 

  • Manage settings: Update your personal details and manage your balance all in one place. 
  • Transaction history: View a detailed record of your recent trips and fare deductions. 

Those with registered GreenCards can check their credit balance by logging into their GreenCard account online or Metro Tas App.  

Your GreenCard is issued subject to, and its use is governed by, the GreenCard Terms and Conditions. 

You can request a refund of unused GreenCard credit by completing the GreenCard refund form.

Completed forms can be emailed to contact@metrotas.com.au.

Refunds can take up to 10 business days to process, and a $5.00 processing fee applies. This fee will be deducted from your remaining balance.
