Free bus rides for Hobart Carols by Candlelight ticket holders

Metro is offering free bus travel to get people to and from this year’s Hobart ‘Carols by Candlelight’ events on Saturday 13 December and Sunday 14 December.

Metro Chief Executive Officer Stuart Wiggins said that this year people could travel free on any Metro bus route to and from Hobart City upon presentation of their “Your Habitat Hobart Carols by Candlelight” ticket to the driver.

“Organisers are expecting big crowds on both nights so Metro is providing free bus services to ensure families can get to Carols by Candlelight and get home more quickly and safely after the events,” Mr Wiggins said.

Metro is also providing three additional free services on Sunday after the Carols to get people home.

On Saturday patrons can travel for free on any Metro Tasmania route to Hobart City between 4pm and 8pm, and any Metro Tasmania route from Hobart City between 9.30pm and 11pm.

Metro’s Saturday timetable will operate to transport patrons to and from the event, and services will operate via their normal routes.

Patrons travelling to Northern Suburbs and Eastern Shore destinations after the Carols will need to walk to the Elizabeth Street Bus Mall to catch their applicable service.

Patrons travelling to Sandy Bay, Dynnyrne, Taroona, Kingston & Blackmans Bay will be able to catch Metro services from the bus stops in Davey Street between Murray Street and Salamanca Place.

People going to the Sunday Carols can also travel for free on any Metro service to the City between 4pm and 8pm upon presentation of their “Your Habitat Hobart Carols by Candlelight” ticket to the driver.

As normal Sunday services will have ceased operating by the time the Carols are scheduled to conclude, Metro is providing free services on a number of key routes at the conclusion of the program.

These services will depart at 10.15pm from Davey Street, between Murray Street and Sandy Bay Road as follows:

  •  Route 74 to Blackmans Bay via Kingston and Southern Outlet
  •  Route 117 to Gagebrook via Bridgewater and Main Road (all stops)
  •  Route 615 to Camelot Park via Shoreline and Eastlands

Patrons wishing to use Park and Ride services can use the locations available at Bilton St Claremont, Glenorchy City Council Car Park (Barry Street, near Interchange) and Metro Springfield.
