Free Buses to Blundstone Arena for International Cricket

Cricket Tasmania and Metro Tasmania will provide free bus services from the city to the international T20 game between Australia and England at Blundstone Arena on Wednesday 7 February.

With gates opening at 6pm and the game scheduled to start at 7.40pm, buses will depart from the city (Franklin Square, Elizabeth Street) every five minutes from 5.40pm to 7.10pm.

Post-game, Metro buses will depart for the city from Church Street.

Metro CEO Megan Morse said with traffic congestion issues high on the agenda at the moment, and students returning to school through the week, Metro was keen to assist to avoid any potential traffic issues on the day of the game.

“Our game day services are designed to ensure people can get from the city to the cricket simply, quickly and with minimal stress, while reducing congestion around the event,” she said.

“With each bus having the potential to take 60 cars off the road, we look forward to providing a free and convenient travel option to benefit both those travelling to the game and just heading home.”

Blundstone Arena general manager Stephen McMullen said with the game likely to attract a big crowd, supporting public transport services in this way is essential to assist to minimise traffic issues.

“The service provided by Metro and funded by Blundstone Arena will greatly assist with this,” he said.
