Metro Tasmania (Metro) has welcomed the Tasmanian Government’s additional investment in the company’s modernisation journey to deliver safer, more reliable, customer-focused public transport services as a part of the Interim Budget handed down yesterday .
In particular, the $1.6 million to upgrade Metro’s CCTV technology will significantly assist in enhanced safety and security for our staff and our passengers. Metro actively works with Tasmania Police to identify and monitor incidents and this investment will provide an enhanced capability to respond to issues when they arise. This sends a clear message that anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.
With the Government’s support, Metro is well progressed with the installation of security screens across our fleet which will further strengthen the security environment for all Tasmanians.
Metro looks forward to working closely with the Government and the Department of State Growth to secure a sustainable future for public transport in Tasmania. For its part, Metro is working to build a more resilient organisation that continues to deliver essential public transport for Tasmanians.
Metro is taking proactive steps to strengthen its financial sustainability, streamline operations, and deliver consistent, high-quality services.
