Shop til you drop this Boxing Day with Metro

Metro is running additional service to help you grab a bargain

On Boxing Day, Metro Tasmania will run a number of extra bus services in Hobart to help ease the rush on one of the busiest shopping days of the year.

Metro’s General Manager of Business Improvement Services Rod Byfield said last year’s Boxing Day services were so well patronised that Metro would run the extra services again this year.

“Extra buses will run from Glenorchy, Eastern Shore, and Kingston to Hobart and are a fuss free way for bargain-hunters to enjoy the annual Boxing Day sales,” Mr Byfield said.

“Using Metro buses helps ease congestion by allowing people to leave their cars at home. It is also much more convenient for people who don’t have to worry about parking and traffic hassles,” Mr Byfield said.

Metro’s Chief Executive Officer Stuart Wiggins said the extra services demonstrated their commitment to improve services for the Tasmanian public during peak periods and for special events.

In Hobart and Launceston, buses will operate to a weekday school vacation timetable on Monday 22 December, Tuesday 23 December and Wednesday 24 December, and a Sunday/Public Holiday timetable for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

In Burnie, there will be no bus services on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, Sunday 28 December or New Year’s Day.

On New Year’s Eve, Metro will again partner with the Motor Accidents Insurance Board (MAIB) to offer a $2 flat cash fare for Nightrider services after 6pm in Hobart, Launceston and Burnie.

The Metro Customer Hotline and the Metro Shop in Elizabeth Street Bus Interchange will be closed on public holidays as well as the 27 & 28 December 2014. During this time, passengers can find timetable information or top up their Greencard online, on the Metro Mobile App, or on board the bus.
