Major construction work in the Hobart City interchange will disrupt Metro services from 10 December 2017. This construction is for the Hyatt-Centric hotel development and is expected to be in place until mid-2019.
Under plans developed by the Department of State Growth, City of Hobart, Hutchison Builders, and Metro, effective 10 December 2017:
- Bus stops A, B, C and D on the western side of the interchange have closed and relocated to new stops J and M on Macquarie Street and Franklin Square, respectively. All eastern shore services will depart Hobart from these new locations for the duration of the construction period.
- Eastern Shore timetables remain the same despite the different departure points.
- The Metro Shop and central interchange bus stops E, F G and H will continue to operate as normal.
Additionally, Franklin Square stops P and N reversed and there are minor timetable changes to some southern services.
Bus Stop J
Rosny Park and Shoreline Central Turn Up and Go services, eastern suburbs all stops services, eastern suburbs express services, Rosny Point, Waverley Street.
Services that would normally depart from stops A and B have moved to stop J, located on Macquarie St between Elizabeth St and Argyle St outside the former Mercury building and the GPO.
After 7pm and on weekends, all eastern shore services depart from stop J.
There are no changes to the timetable for any of these eastern shore services.
Note: as these routes now travel directly along Macquarie St instead of via Campbell St, passengers that previously used the outbound Campbell St stop should join services at the new temporary stop on Macquarie St after Campbell St.
Bus Stop M
Rosny Park, Warrane, Mornington, Seven Mile Beach, Lindisfarne, Geilston Bay, Risdon Vale.
Services that would normally depart from stops C and D have moved to stop M, located at Franklin Square, on the Elizabeth St side.
Stop M operates on weekdays until 7pm. At all other times (after 7pm on weekdays, and at any time on weekends), services use stop J instead.
There are no changes to the timetable for any of these eastern shore services.
Note: as these routes now travel directly along Macquarie St instead of via Campbell St, passengers that previously used the outbound Campbell St stop should join services at the new temporary stop on Macquarie St after Campbell St.
Franklin Square
The order of bus stops P and N in Franklin Square (Macquarie St) has reversed to improve the boarding experience by making bus movements more efficient and visible, and make better use of kerb space and shelters.
Stop P has moved towards Murray St and stop N has moved towards Elizabeth St.
Stop P – Sandy Bay, University, Taroona, Kingston, Blackmans Bay, Huntingfield, and Channel Highway
Stop N – South Hobart, Mount Nelson, and Fern Tree
Some minor timetables changes have also taken effect for Fern Tree, South Hobart, Taroona, and Huntingfield departures to enhance service reliability. Click here for information about the new timetables.
