Metro launches ‘The Women Moving Metro’ recruitment campaign

Metro has launched The Women Moving Metro, the latest phase of our Put Your Career In Motion recruitment campaign, encouraging more women to consider a career in Bus Operations.

The campaign was officially launched on Friday 9 October with Metro CEO Jess Paton, Minister for Transport Kerry Vincent and Metro Bus Operator Jane.

Women currently make up around 9 per cent of Metro’s Bus Driver workforce, and the campaign has been developed to help more women see bus driving as a realistic and rewarding career option.

At the heart of the campaign are the stories of Metro Bus Operators Leone, Jane, Lara and Helena, who have shared what they enjoy about the job, what helped them get started and what they would say to women who may never have considered a career behind the wheel.

Metro CEO Jess Paton said the campaign was about helping women recognise the value of the experience they already bring.

“Many women already have the people skills, judgement, patience and life experience that make great Bus Operators. What they may not have is experience driving a bus, and that’s the part we can teach.”

New recruits receive six weeks of paid training, with licence support available for eligible applicants and ongoing support as they build confidence on the road.

Ms Paton said the campaign was also about making sure women could see a genuine pathway into Metro.

“We want women to see Metro as a place where they can start a new career, feel supported to succeed and build a future in Bus Operations.”

Minister for Transport Kerry Vincent said Metro had listened to women already working behind the wheel and used their experiences to shape the campaign and support new recruits.

The campaign has already received strong early interest, and Metro is working towards a targeted women’s training intake in November 2026.
