At the 2025 TasICT Excellence Awards, Metro, together with Ionata Digital, Loop Foundry, Department of State Growth (Tas), and Mattersoft, received the award for Best ICT Initiative or Industry Collaboration.
The award recognises the collaborative approach to the successful delivery of real-time bus tracking in the Metro Tas app, an important step in our ongoing work to improve the public transport experience for all Tasmanians.
Led by Metro’s Communications and Brand Marketing Manager, Graham Michael Freeman, and Project Director, Damian Shirley, the project was delivered in under six months through cross-agency collaboration, technical excellence, and a shared commitment to putting our customers first.
Then, at the Melbourne Design Awards 2025, the Metro Tas app won:
- Gold for the BETTER FUTURE Design Award in the category Digital – Government Services
- Silver for the BETTER FUTURE Design Award in the category Digital — Application
These awards celebrate the customer-focused design of our app at a national level.
The Metro Tas app has been developed by a hardworking, collaborative team focused on the needs of our customers.
A special thank you to Martin Anderson and the Ionata team, Jack Scott at Loop Foundry, Steuart Milne and Russell Goslin at DSG, and our partners at Mattersoft for helping bring this complex and customer-focused solution to life.
More than 30,000 Tasmanians are now using the Metro Tas app each month (a 600% increase from 2024 usage), allowing Metro customers to plan their journeys with greater ease and confidence.
A big thank you to TasICT and the Better Future Design Awards for recognising this important project, and congratulations to all the winners and nominees for their outstanding contributions to ICT, design and service!
