Bus Driver Appreciation Day is a chance to recognise the people behind the wheel of Metro services — our Bus Operators — and the role they play in supporting everyday life across Tasmania.
Every day, across Hobart, Launceston and Burnie, our drivers help thousands of people get where they need to go: to work, to school, to appointments, and to connect with family, friends and community. From early‑morning school runs to supporting the daily commute, their work is essential to the way Tasmanians live, work and travel.
Bus driving is a role that carries significant responsibility. Our drivers operate in busy traffic conditions, navigate tight schedules and respond to a wide range of customer needs, often managing the unexpected with calm, care and professionalism. Above all, they bring a strong commitment to safety and customer service to every journey.
We are so thankful for the commitment our Bus Operators bring to their role and the impact they have on the communities they serve.
To mark Bus Driver Appreciation Day 2026, morning, midday and afternoon teas were held across Metro’s three depots, creating an opportunity to pause, connect and acknowledge the work our drivers do every day.
If you’re travelling with Metro, we encourage you to take a moment to thank your driver. Those small gestures of appreciation mean a great deal.
