Greencard – it’s the smarter way to travel
With one card, you can make boarding a bus quicker, cheaper and easier. Join over 100,000 other Tasmanians and claim a 20% discount, free transfers, and capped urban fares by using a Greencard for your travel.
You can apply for a Greencard online, in person, or by calling our Customer Service Hotline on 13 22 01 and requesting that an application form be mailed to you. $20 pre-paid Adult Greencards are also available in Hobart from the Metro Shop (22 Elizabeth Street) or Tasmanian Travel & Information Centre (20 Davey Street)*.
Greencard simplifies public transport by making it easier and quicker to board a bus without the right change by acting as a digital wallet for fare credit. Simply tap on the driver ticket machine and go – no need to have the right change or know what to ask for.
Your card balance and the cost of your journey will be displayed and a light will flash to indicate your remaining card balance – green for more than $7, orange for less than $7 and red if there is no credit remaining on the card.
Not only will you automatically save 20% on your fare and transfer between buses for free within 90 minutes, but Greencard also automatically caps urban fares at a maximum daily rate.
Two daily cap levels apply, dependent upon when your first bus trip of the day is made. Once the daily cap amount is reached during the course of a day’s travel, you will pay no more for any further travel during that day.
- Adult – $4.60 if the first boarding is made after 9am Monday-Friday, or on a Saturday, Sunday and Public Holiday. $9.20 if first boarding made before 9am Monday-Friday.
- Concession – $2.80 if the first boarding is made after 9am Monday-Friday, or on a Saturday, Sunday and Public Holiday. $5.60 if first boarding made before 9am Monday-Friday.
- Student – $3.40 every day, regardless of time of first boarding.
You can add credit to your Greencard at any time – on the bus by giving cash to the driver, online or using the Metro app via your secure online account, or in person at any Greencard agent, Metro depot or the Metro Shop. Keep track of your balance when boarding, using the app or online.
Be aware that online top ups may take more than 24 hours to process, so please ensure you top up before your balance is too low to cover your daily fare.
